The popular Pizza-Pasta night returns Tuesday to kick off February Family Style Dining at Northland. The house was packed early in January when the Pizza-Pasta combination kicked off the family night dining season, and we expect another good crowd this week. Reservations are encouraged. Please keep in mind full dinner service begins at 5:00pm.
OK...it's been a little chilly the past few days - not very inviting to venture outdoors. But, there's a brighter sky on the horizon (courtesy of a strong Canadian high) and a Pacific air flow will warm things up for the weekend. Just in time for the Sunday "End of the Month" Brunch. Chef Schueller and the culinary staff have expanded the menu from the first event. So, consider brunch and some family sledding or skiing or skating action...or do it in reverse. Brunch will start at 10:30 and last until 2:30. We would appreciate reservations. Call the office today.
Northland Superintendent Chris Tritabaugh recently scored the cover story in the national pulbication "Golf Course Trades." Chris wrote the article "Taking Advantage of Your Advantage."

We're at the end of another work week, and the big question on everyone's mind: what's going to happen with that projected storm? Will it go south of us again? Will it turn mostly to rain - or freezing rain? Sounds like something to contemplate over a glass of wine at Northland tonight - although, some discussion about the Vikings-Saints game is a distinct possibility. After all, it is Half Price Wine Night on selected bottles. Who does the selection? Clint Johnson, the Food & Beverage Manager, promises to select the right varieties to pair with some of Chef Michael Schueller's dinner features. Special pricing begins at 5:00pm.

The recent warm weather might have had some Northland members firing up their grills for the first time in 2010. While the club's grills won't be in use, there's still an opportunity to enjoy some good old fashioned BBQ on Tuesday night - the popular Chicken & Ribs feature makes its debut for Family Style Dining. Service begins at 5:00...reservations are encouraged.

Northland Executive Chef Michael Schueller will introduce three new menu items tonight.
Members 0f the Northland Course Renovation Committee tonight reviewed the latest in a series of drawings for possible changes to the golf course from noted golf course architect Ron Prichard. Prichard, who was recently honored by Golf Digest for his restoration at Charlotte Country Club, is expected to present his final drawings within the next month - Prichard is recovering from recent hip replacement surgery.

There's Meat Loaf and then there's Meatloaf. One is a rock 'n' roll legend known for his powerhouse concerts - remember "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" - and occasional forays into television and the movies....the other is a popular menu item that will be served at Northland on Tuesday Family Dining Night.
Our first Family Night this past week featuring Pizza & Pasta was a great success, and we anticipate this coming Tuesday will also be a hit. The chef's feature will include a garden salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, crusty French bread and vanilla ice cream. As always, reservations are encouraged. Family service starts at 5:00pm.
Jake Ryan, Northland's Assistant Golf Superintendent, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendent's Association (MGCSA) earlier this week. Jake is only the second assistant in the history of association to be elected to the board. It's quite an honor and we congratulate Jake for the achievement.
There are a few changes taking place in the availability of food service at Northland. Saturday service will now begin at 5:00pm. Saturday lunch service will return in the Spring. Beginning on Sunday, members will now be able to get a hot sandwich and soup beginning at 11:00am. There will be no other Sunday food service until Spring, with the exception of the End of the Month Sunday Brunch on January 31.
Food and Beverage Manager Clint Johnson wants all members to know that he's willing to start a roaring bonfire on Saturday or Sunday afternoon if you intend to enjoy some family sledding, skating, snowshoeing or skiing. Just call in advance and he'll make sure the firepit is warm when you're ready. Once you're done with the outdoor activity, take advantage of drink specials in the bar. All hot drinks are $1 off and Bloody Mary's are just $4. The televisions will feature football, golf or whatever sporting event you'd like to watch.
You'll note some additional menu changes at Northland starting this next week, including Gourmet Mac 'n' Cheese (5 cheeses), Fried Green Tomato Tower, Bison Mini's are back as is the East End Burger, the popular Wagu Burger returns, and Chef Mike Schueller has added a House Aged Bistro Cut Strip Loin.
It looks as if we'll have at least one more cold night before a shift in the weather. The forecast for next week calls for a January thaw - of sorts. It might actually hit 30 degrees. Wnat to talk to someone about the weather? It's what Minnesotans are famous for. How about doing it tonight over food and drinks at Northland during our Thursday Happy Hour? Service starts at 4pm and continues until 7:00. And, don't forget the Late Night Happy Hours on Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm to 11pm.
Also tonight, the televisions in the Link Lounge will carry the hockey game between East - Blaine at 6pm. This is part of a statewide broadcast by Fox Sports North. That game will be followed by the Denfeld - CEC game. This will be the first statewide exposure for the new Heritage Sports Center.
The popular Tuesday Family Style Dining Night makes its 2010 debut tomorrow night with the popular Pizza-Pasta Party. In addition to the pizza and pasta, there will also be an Italian salad and breadsticks. This is Family Style service so there's plenty for everyone - and more if you want it.
It's the start of a new week at Northland...of course, it's also the start of a new year and a new decade. Maybe this is a day to share some perspective on the past decade and hopes or projections for the year's ahead. Too much thinking? Maybe it's just a day to try one of the new martini specials at Northland. Or, with this current cold snap, one of the specials off the hot drink menu that we've posted below.
