Clubhouse Getting Holiday Facelift

By the end of the day, the clubhouse at Northland will be brightly decorated for the holiday season thanks to the efforts of a team of volunteers led by Barb Klatzky. Joining Barb in giving the clubhouse a festive look earlier today were Patty Cartier, Patty McNulty, Linda Jeannette and Mignon Fryer. It's possible others may stop in this afternoon to assist. The Link Grill, Fireside Room, individual private dining areas and the first floor ballroom were all decorated today with holiday trees and wreaths. Since this is also Martini Monday, maybe this is a good night to stop in to look at the new decorations.

Granted, it's early in the day....but, how's the work week starting out for you? Good, bad or indifferent there's a new way to celebrate the end of Monday. How about $1 off all the new features on our expanded Martini Menu? The Northland beverage staff has been very creative in designing some wonderful new taste sensations which have proven to be very popular since they were first introduced.

Construction Updates On Turf Blog

It's Monday...the start of another week, and the weather once again is unseasonably warm. In fact, Duluth's temperature this morning was higher than most everywhere else in Minnesota. Today's high will be in the upper 40's, and is expected to be even higher tomorrow.

Today is the first day at Northland without the turf management's seasonal workers. The crew was able to accomplish much since the official closing of the golf course. Superintendent Chris Tritabaugh has posted two new videos on his blog explaining the two most recent projects.

Are you following Chris on Twitter? He frequently posts updates. Although the number of postings might be down this time of year, it's a great way for you to keep abreast of activities involving the golf course. If you go to his blog you'll see a link to his Twitter site.

The unseasonably warm weather is allowing the turf management staff to complete quite a few projects in ideal working conditions. And, if the recent forecasts released from the Climate Prediction Center are correct, we're in for continued warm weather. You can see all the forecasts in an interactive format here. When you get to the site, just move your cursor over the forecast period to see the latest information. The map on the right above shows the temperature forecast for November. As you can see, we're expected to be well above normal.

Country Clubs - Industry Crisis?

Northland members receive an update each month on the club's financial situation courtesy of President Ken Buck's monthly report to the membership. As you have been reading, our club continues to perform admirably. It's a much different story for other country clubs across America,
Here's a link to a recent article in BusinessWeek that reports on the financial crisis many clubs are experiencing, and ways in which some of them are attempting to cope with declining membership and reduced revenues.

Golf Course Closes

A great golf season has come to a close at Northland. Members of the turf management staff will begin applying covers to the greens today.
Wet weather this past week has given way to clear sunny skies today, perfect weather for the crews to begin their work.
Look for updates on this progress from Superintendent Chris Tritabaugh here and on his blog site.

Although the photo on the right was taken from quite a distance, it does show that the turf management staff did have at least one interested observer today. One of the Northland coyote's was keeping a fairly close look at the progress as crews began closing up the golf course.
